SEPN - Secure's Electronic Payments

Cashless payment security is becoming increasingly important for merchants, banks, and business partners, while the requirements are rising due to cyberattacks (DDoS or others), outages, or regulatory-compliant demands, it requires robust and well-protected networks & services.

We are innovating with SCION and SEPN to redefine trusted service delivery for our business partners. The choice was driven by a strong need from several key business partners. The technology choice was advised by the Swiss National Bank . This all under the supervision of the SEPN Association steered by the ep2 TeCo , the Swiss Merchant Association and the Swiss Payment Association .

Setting the Scene

Since October 2025, we are connected to the SEPN Isolation Domain - the world’s first SCION network architecture for secure cashless payments. We exposed a range of services of our existing payment ecosystem, enabling:

• End-to-end integrity and visibility for cross-border counterparties
• Reduced risk from third-party routing irregularities
• Faster, more reliable settlement and data exchange
• Strong adherence to regulatory and risk-management expectations through verifiable paths and isolation

SCION (Scalability, Control, and Isolation On Next-Generation Networks) is a modern Internet architecture that provides strong, verifiable path control, end-to-end transparency, and built-in resistance to routing failures and surveillance. It gives you predictable, secure connectivity across global networks, reducing risk and improving uptime for critical financial services. Technology developed at ETH Zurich and comercialized by Anapaya Systems .

SEPN (Secure EFTPOS Network) isolates traffic within a trusted domain, delivering private, low-latency communication for Cashless Payment Services. By stepping into the SEPN Isolation Domain. We ensure a controlled, compliant environment for sensitive transactions and data exchange with business partners.

Benefits

1. Protected Data Exchange: SEPN allows a precisely defined group of users to exchange data with each other in a controlled manner and separately from the internet.
2. Resilient Data Traffic: The collaboration with multiple SEPN communication providers ensures redundant connections among all the connected parties. The temporary loss of one provider can be compensated for within seconds, normally without any disruption to the application session.
3. Controlled Access: Certificates emitted by the SEPN regulation body ensure controlled access to the network. Services providers need to undergo a security audit to testify their certificate.

How does it Work

The minimum requirements for using SEPN are:

1. A SCION infrastructure, physical network router installed on premise.
2. A connection to a SEPN Core approved provider.
3. A SEPN certificate.

Notes:

• Setting up and operating a SCION & SEPN infrastructure requires network specialists & knowhow, hence all providers offer managed services.
• The SEPN Certification is issued by the SEPN Association and is bound by eligibility conditions.
• We can enable Edge-to-Edge encryption as addiotnal security layer!
• Currently no gateway model exists in the SEPN eco-system.
